PUPPY LOVE Sensitive, warm friendship between two puppies.
THE LIVES HE TOUCHED The blocks in this represent the people whose lives my husband Shalom touched – some closely, some peripherally, some to a larger extent, some less, some recently, some long ago. The arms extended all around at the back embraces them all. There are 18 little blocks, the number symbolizes life in the Jewish religion. The arms extended in the back embrace them all. This sculpture is on his tomb.
MAQUETTE FOR FAMILY The more I polished this stone, the more the colors came up. Suddenly I saw the shape of a heart in just the right spot on the tall piece. One of the abstract shapes is a strong person, the curved one is gentler, leaning towards it. The little shape below is the child that turned the couple into a family.
SECRETS The boy is telling a secret to the girl, who is very shy. There is no detail in the sculpture. A sleeve and skirt show that she’s dressed. The boy has a pocket on his pants, and he’s dressed. There are no faces, but the feeling is there.
MAGDALENA TRUEL In the original maquette I made her sit on the pile of books holding a rifle that has a pen at the end instead of bullets. I was asked not to use a rifle. I modified the weapon into a huge very realistic black pen with a silver nib.
THE KISS Passionate and turbulent, immersed in each other.
JEWS WHO FOUGHT THE NAZIS This little sculpture was presented to couples who both survived the Holocaust as partisans fighting the Nazis in WWII. It shows the Star of David spear stabbing the distorted broken swastika trying to crawl away.
CARESS Intimate and gentle, intertwined.
SIBLINGS Brother and sister sharing time together.
GEMINI SNAKES My twin sister and I were born on June 6, 1929, in China. Gemini in our horoscope, the year of the snakes in China. We were not identical, in appearance, personality, and skills.
CHATTING A casual conversation between two friends.
